The Tiniest House in Minneapolis

I don’t know why I bought this house.

To be fair though I couldn’t tell you why I do most things. I guess I thought it would be funny. Or maybe deep down I didn’t want to buy a house and this is the least amount of house that you can buy.

More house means more to clean, more to fix, more to heat. Less house means less stuff and less fuss. It means more time for art or drinking tea or doing nothing. And that sounds like a good life to me.

I didn’t have much going on during covid so I turned this place into a minimalist art cabin. I bought power tools. I built a sauna. I built a fence. I cursed all the previous owners as I scraped layers of paint off the front door. Something funny started to happen in between my strings of expletives- I started to fall in love with the place.

I’m not into naming houses. That’s for castles or country estates. But I did name my wi-fi network after the biggest tree in the yard -The Blue Spruce- and I guess that’s what I think of it as now.

This house is not for everyone. But it is absolutely perfect for someone. Just like it was perfect for me.

I didn’t get to everything on my list. I never did build that Japanese teahouse, but that’s okay. It’s probably good to leave some things unfinished. That way someone else can get their hands dirty and cuss me out and maybe fall in love with it just like I did.
